Stress and Burnout Therapy in Dubai
You were never meant to run on empty.
Stress is part of a full life. In small doses it sharpens focus and helps you rise to a challenge. In Dubai, where long hours, ambitious goals and a fast pace are part of the city's appeal, stress can quietly become the default setting. When it goes on for months without real recovery, it can turn into burnout: a deep exhaustion that a weekend or a holiday no longer fixes.
If you're dragging yourself through the week, feeling detached from work you used to care about, or snapping at the people closest to you, you are not failing. Your system is telling you that something needs to change. Therapy helps you understand what is driving the pressure and build a way of working and living that you can actually sustain.
Stress or Burnout?
Stress and burnout are related, but they are not the same thing.
Stress usually feels like too much: too many demands, too little time, a mind that won't switch off. You still care, and you still believe that if you could just get on top of things, you'd feel better.
Burnout usually feels like not enough: not enough energy, not enough motivation, not enough of yourself left to give. Caring starts to feel impossible.
The World Health Organization describes burnout in the ICD-11 as an occupational phenomenon resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed. It is defined by three dimensions: exhaustion, growing mental distance or cynicism toward one's job, and a reduced sense of effectiveness at work [1].
Burnout is not classified as a medical condition, but its effects are very real, and it often overlaps with anxiety and depression. Part of our work is helping you understand which is which, so you get the right kind of support.
Common Signs and Symptoms
Emotional and Cognitive Signs
Exhaustion: A tiredness that sleep doesn't touch. You wake up already depleted.
Detachment and Cynicism: Feeling numb, distant or negative about work, colleagues or clients you once cared about.
Reduced Sense of Achievement: Working harder than ever, yet feeling that nothing you do is good enough or makes a difference.
Irritability: A shorter fuse with colleagues, your partner or your children.
Brain Fog: Difficulty concentrating, remembering things or making simple decisions.
Physical Signs
Sleep Problems: Trouble falling asleep, waking at 3am with a racing mind, or sleeping long hours without feeling rested.
Body Tension: Headaches, a tight jaw, neck and shoulder pain, or stomach problems.
Getting Sick More Often: Frequent colds or infections as your body's reserves run low.
Leaning on Quick Fixes: Relying more on caffeine, sugar, alcohol or screens to get through the day or wind down at night.
Behavioral Signs
Withdrawing: Cancelling plans, avoiding calls, pulling away from friends and family.
Longer Hours, Less Done: Staying later but getting less done, or procrastinating on things that used to be easy.
Losing What Restores You: Exercise, hobbies and rest are the first things to go.
What Drives Stress and Burnout in Dubai
Burnout rarely comes from one thing. It builds when demands stay high and recovery stays low for a long time. Some pressures are common in a city like Dubai:
An Always-On Culture: Fast-paced industries, client expectations and messages arriving from several time zones can make it hard to ever fully switch off.
High Stakes: For many residents, a job is also tied to a residency visa, so work insecurity can weigh much more heavily.
Distance from Your Support Network: When family and old friends are in another country, there are fewer people to share the load with.
Perfectionism and High Standards: The drive that brought many people to Dubai can make it very hard to say no, delegate or rest.
Juggling Roles: Parents balancing demanding careers and family life, often without extended family nearby.
Life Transitions: Relocation, a new role, a promotion, redundancy or a new baby can all tip a manageable load into an overwhelming one.
Our Therapeutic Approach to Stress and Burnout
Recovering from burnout is not about learning to push harder. It is about understanding what got you here, restoring your energy, and changing the patterns that keep you running on empty. We start by understanding your situation as a whole: your work, your relationships, your health and what matters to you. Then we agree on clear, practical goals together.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT helps you notice the thoughts and habits that keep stress going, such as "I can't say no" or "If I rest, I'll fall behind", and replace them with more balanced, workable ones.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT helps you step back from pressure and self-criticism and reconnect with your values. That makes it easier to decide what deserves your energy, and what doesn't.
Mindfulness-Based Approaches
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy and grounding practices help calm your nervous system and catch the early signs of overload before they turn into exhaustion.
Psychodynamic and Person-Centered Therapy
Sometimes burnout follows a lifelong pattern, like always being the reliable one or feeling worthy only when you are achieving. These approaches help you understand where those patterns come from, so you can change them at the root.
Practical Recovery Planning
Therapy also covers the practical side: setting boundaries, protecting sleep, planning a conversation with your manager, and, if you've taken time off, preparing to return to work at a sustainable pace.
Because conditions like thyroid problems or anemia can feel a lot like burnout, we may also suggest a check-up with your GP.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is burnout a real diagnosis?
The World Health Organization recognizes burnout as an occupational phenomenon rather than a medical condition. That doesn't make it any less real. In your first sessions, your therapist will also check whether anxiety or depression is part of the picture, as that can change the best way to help.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on how long you've been under strain and what's driving it. Some people come for a focused block of sessions to recover and reset; others prefer longer-term work on deeper patterns. Your therapist will agree goals with you early on and review progress together.
Can I have sessions online or outside working hours?
Yes. We offer sessions in person at our clinic in JLT and online anywhere in the UAE. Sessions run Monday to Saturday, 10am to 7pm.
How much does it cost, and can I use insurance?
Individual therapy is AED 850 for a 50-minute session. We work on a pay-and-claim basis, and many UAE insurance plans cover part or all of the cost. See our insurance guide for how it works.
Will my employer find out?
No. What you share in therapy is confidential and is not shared with your employer without your consent, within the limits explained in our Client Rights.
