Adult ADHD Assessment
ADHD can affect attention, organization, time management, emotional regulation, relationships, work, and academic performance. However, many other difficulties can look similar to ADHD, including anxiety, stress, sleep difficulties, learning difficulties, trauma, depression, or burnout.
Our assessment process is designed to understand your unique experiences and determine whether ADHD is the most helpful explanation for the difficulties you are facing. The goal is not simply to provide a diagnosis, but to develop a clear understanding of your strengths, challenges, and recommendations for moving forward.
A diagnosis is not always the outcome of an assessment. Sometimes the process helps identify other factors that may better explain the difficulties being experienced. Our role is to provide a careful, evidence-based evaluation that helps guide the next steps, regardless of the outcome.
Step 1 - Pre-Assessment Consultation (30 minutes)
The first step is a brief consultation to understand the questions you would like the assessment to answer and whether a comprehensive ADHD assessment is the most appropriate next step.
You will also be asked to complete questionnaires that screen for symptoms commonly associated with ADHD. For children and adolescents, we may ask parents, caregivers, and teachers to complete questionnaires to provide information about how difficulties may present across different environments. For adults, we may invite a partner, family member, or another person who knows you well to contribute additional information when appropriate.
These questionnaires help us understand how difficulties with attention, organization, impulsivity, emotional regulation, and day-to-day functioning may be affecting you.

Step 2: Comprehensive ADHD Assessment (90 minutes)
The assessment appointment is an opportunity for us to get to know you in greater depth. We will explore your current concerns, developmental history, educational and occupational experiences, strengths, relationships, and everyday functioning.
We will also consider other factors that may contribute to, or better explain, your current challenges.
A central part of the assessment process is differential diagnosis. ADHD shares many features with other psychological, emotional, medical, and learning difficulties. An important part of our work is determining whether ADHD is the most appropriate explanation for the challenges you are experiencing, or whether another explanation may better account for the pattern of difficulties.
Depending on the specific concerns being explored during the assessment, additional assessment tools may be used. Where appropriate, we may also gather information from someone who knows you well, such as a parent, partner, caregiver, or teacher, to help us build a more complete understanding of your experiences

Additional Assessment Session (If Required) (90 Minutes)
In some cases, additional assessment may be recommended. This is most commonly required when formal school, university, or workplace accommodations are being considered, or when further information is needed to answer the referral question with confidence. This additional session may include selected cognitive, educational, or executive functioning measures and lasts approximately 90 minutes.

Step 3: Clinical Interpretation, Report and Feedback Session
Following the assessment, your psychologist will carefully review and integrate all sources of information, including interviews, questionnaires, observations, collateral information, and assessment results.
This stage involves detailed clinical interpretation, differential diagnosis, and the preparation of a comprehensive written report. The report outlines the assessment findings, diagnostic conclusions (when appropriate), and personalized recommendations tailored to your needs and goals.
Your report is typically completed within approximately 10 days of the assessment.
Once the report is ready, we will meet with you for a 60-minute feedback session to discuss the findings in detail. We will explain whether ADHD appears to be the most appropriate explanation for your difficulties, answer any questions you may have, and review the recommendations contained within your report.
If ADHD is not the most helpful explanation, we will discuss alternative formulations and recommendations that may better support your wellbeing and goals.
Recommendations may include psychological therapy, workplace or educational accommodations, environmental modifications, further assessment, or referral to another healthcare professional when appropriate.
Our aim is to ensure that you leave the assessment process with greater clarity, a deeper understanding of yourself, and practical guidance for what comes next.
